Terms of Service

These terms apply when you use JINA (“JINA”, “we”, “us”) at jinakanga.link, a website that turns text you type into kanga-style designs. JINA is an independent design studio based in Diani, Kwale County, Kenya. By using the site or buying a pack you agree to these terms.

1. The free studio

Anyone can make, preview, share and download a free preview of a design. Designs are generated automatically, in your browser, from the text and settings you choose. You are responsible for the words you enter. Don't use JINA to create unlawful, hateful, harassing or defamatory content, or content that infringes someone else's rights.

2. Buying a pack

Paid packs (HD Pack, Print-ready fabric file, Event Pack, Commercial licence) are sold through Lemon Squeezy, our reseller and merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy takes your payment, issues your receipt and licence key, and handles sales tax/VAT. Its buyer terms also apply to your purchase. Prices are shown in US dollars; the final price including any tax is shown at checkout.

3. Licence keys and downloads

  • Each purchase comes with a licence key. You unlock your files at /unlock/ by pasting the key.
  • The first time a key is used, it is bound to the design you are unlocking (the Commercial licence can hold up to 5 designs). After that the key re-downloads only its bound design(s), on any device.
  • Keep your key private. Anyone with your key can download your design's files.
  • To protect the service we limit how often keys can be tried from one connection.
  • If an order is refunded or charged back, its key stops working and the licence ends.

4. What you can do with the files

Your rights depend on the pack you bought and are set out in the Design Licence.

5. Intellectual property

The JINA generator, software, motifs, layouts and brand belong to us. Traditional Swahili proverbs are shared cultural heritage and are not owned by us or by you. Because designs are generated from text, another person who types the same message with the same settings will see the same design, so no design is exclusive.

6. Colour and printing

Colours vary between screens, printers and fabrics. We provide files to the stated sizes and resolutions; we can't control or guarantee the work of third-party printers.

7. Availability and warranty

We work to keep JINA available, but the site is provided “as is” and may occasionally be unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force when you bought applies to that purchase.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in.
